Battery Process Development Engineer

About our opportunity:

As part of EMR's growth for 2022, we are building our battery teams now ready for Gigafactory production scrap volumes of the future and we are looking for experts in lithium batteries to join our new team.

You will provide technical battery recycling expertise within EMR’s central engineering team, defining battery recycling processes and supporting the development of new facilities for recycling lithium ion batteries and associated materials.

What you will be doing:

  • Identify requirements for processing batteries and product quality
  • Ensure that all risks are identified and managed during the process design including HAZID and HAZOP studies
  • Working with the EMR SHE team, regulators and external experts to develop state of the art facilities
  • Documenting risk assessments and method statements
  • Assessment of technology providers
  • Defining specifications for plant procurement including process guarantees
  • Supervision of process commissioning trials
  • Working with SHE and operational colleagues to ensure operational procedures are in place
  • Reviewing and optimising plant performance

About you:

  • You will have a proven track record in the development of new processes, from design through implementation.
  • An engineering degree is essential, with chemical engineering particularly appropriate.
  • Experience of lithium ion battery manufacture, recycling or research would be of great interest.
