Transport Manager

About our opportunity:

The role of Transport Manager is responsible for the control of transport staff, vehicles and drivers whilst executing sustainable haulage activity to deliver optimum operational performance and high levels of safety and customer satisfaction

What you will be doing:

  • Overseeing and promoting excellent standards of customer service
  • Plan, organise and manage the work of self and the transport team to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with EMR policies and the legal requirements
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to achieve broader EMR policies, procedures, goals and objectives
  • Oversee the management of the drivers, including recruitment, induction training, licence checks, driver hours rule and working time
  • In line with EMR objectives, arrange employee training sessions on subjects as H&S, driver CPC
  • Promote safe working activities by conducting safety audits, attending EMR safety meetings
  • Manage activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking vehicles
  • Support the building of strong relationships with 3P transport and related suppliers
  • Overseeing and promoting cost / fuel efficient vehicle routing
  • Ensure that optimal levels of vehicle utilisation are achieved
  • Ensuring that vehicles, equipment and operations do not have an unduly adverse impact on the environment in which they operate
  • Analyse expenditure, haulage recovery and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies and budgets for reducing costs
  • Work with EMRs fleet engineer(s) to ensure cost effective servicing and repairs
  • Ensure all maintenance of transport records required to demonstrate compliance with legal requirements
  • Actively encourage feedback from the staff / drivers and support creativity and new ideas

About you:

  • Proven track record of transport management 
  • You're experienced in managing a team of transport staff and vehicles across one or more sites
  • Hold a standard national or international CPC (certification of professional competence)
  • Proven track record of ensuring cost effective purchasing and monitoring of spend  
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Adhere to Health Safety and Environmental policies
  • NEBOSH certificate or other relevant safety training
  • Valid LGV Class C or C+E licence would be considered beneficial
